I'm a lifelong fan of all things Joan Rivers. She was not only a trailblazer but incredibly intelligent. I bought this book as a change of pace since I've read all of her other funny books that are basically musings. "Murder at the Academy Awards" is entertaining and engaging but a little predictable. Knowing what I know now I would still read/buy it but it's not exactly a classic. Very happy with the purchase and I'd call it a "fun read"!

It’s ok
I wasn't sure what this book would be, but...I was surprised by it. It was a great who-done-it. Pretty good job.
I have to say that I've loved Joan Rivers for my entire life, practically. That being said, I thought this was a fun read and a fun quasi-insider's view into the world of celebrities and their, shall we say, problems and excentricities. I never would have guessed the ending as there were absolutely no clues to it that I noticed. Consequently, it is actually what I'd call a real mystery. Some people may say it is "fluffy", but the celebrity backdrop made it all the more fun and better to read for fans like me. I can't wait for the next in the series.
First of all, I miss seeing Joan Rivers on the E Channel. I didn't know she wrote fiction so I ordered this book. Enjoyed it. The Halsey character reminded me of Lindsay Lohan. She was practically the only star that wasn't mentioned in the book so it's a good guess Halsey was based loosely on Lohan. No matter--it was a light, fun story to read. I'm going to eventually read every book Joan wrote.

Sometimes it seems Joan Rivers is everywhere - TV shows, selling her gorgeous jewelry, etc.
When I heard her say she with Jerrilyn Farmer was writing a mystery book called Murder at the Academy Awards, I couldn't wait to order it.
In fact I read the book in 2 days!
Joan Rivers' literary counterpart is Max Taylor. Max's daughter Drew, is Melissa's counterpart. They do what the real Rivers ladies do - Troll the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards and get the scoop and vie for interviews that other networks/shows are trying to grab.
Ms. Rivers' knowledge of Hollywood and the Red Carpet brings the reality to the story. I am sure the partnership between Rivers and Farmer was magic because every page of this book was a delight to read.
The plot is simple - a young starlet who had just gotten out of rehab - and had been close to Max and Drew - comes out of her limo (she was an Oscar nominee) and she collapses near Max and dies.
While everyone thinks it was a relapse of drug overdose, Max and Drew don't think that for a minute. They are sure she was murdered.
They, especially Max, go the extra mile to untangle the mystery. And there are some hilarious scenes that could only happen in Hollywood!
If this first of the series is this good, I cannot wait for more mysteries starring Max Taylor and Drew with her crew and her WONDERFUL pooch named Killer!

After the news of Joan Rivers’ death, I searched on to find a book about her, but was intrigued by the description of this book. I really enjoyed reading it as it gave me glimpses into the lives of Ms. Rivers and her daughter, Melissa----with a whimsical twist! The storyline was detailed, but was so well-written it was easy to follow. The characters (Joan & Melissa included!) were so believable that at times I forgot it was a fictional story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a little get-away-from-it-all read. You will be absolutely delighted and again surprised by the immense talent of Joan Rivers.
I'm a new fan to "Fashion Police" but a long-time fan of Joan Rivers. I got this book because I couldn't get enough of her on the tv show. It's a fun romp, starting with some "behind the scenes" of how things are on the Oscar Red Carpet for the news crews; the after-parties; and behind the scenes of a very exclusive re-hab center. There is a mystery, but I don't really remember who murdered the victim or why----this book is more about what it might be like to spend a couple of weeks in Hollywood with Joan Rivers and her daughter, solving a famous celebrities' murder.
