Immersion Immersion Trilogy #1 eBook MJ Prest

I fall squarely into neither demographic this book is obviously aimed towards: teenaged nor female, and yet I was captive within the first dozen pages or so.

MJ Prest makes Atlantis pour out of the pages and wrap itself around you like a place you'd always known with the vivid pointilism of youth's vision.

Artemis is a believable protagonist who...well I won't ruin anything for you lucky future readers, but suffice it to say that I envy you the first time discovery of Atlantis and its denizens.

You'll want to thank me later for this recommendation so all I ask is that after reading, please encourage MJ Prest to hurry along with book two. We'll call it even.

Immersion Immersion Trilogy #1 eBook MJ Prest Reviews

First of all, I really hope this book makes it to the big screen one day! We need another mermaid movie ASAP.

I am not a person who reads much YA--I generally keep to adult novels and mysteries. However, I was hooked on this from the beginning. The characters, action, dialogue and especially the gorgeous imagery drew me in and kept me reading until the climactic ending. I can't wait to see how Artemis and Egis' journey turns out.
This is a clever fantasy based on the myths of mermaids (or rather mer-men) and of Atlantis. You are kept wondering how the love story between the girl Artemis and her mer-man lover Egis is going to get resolved, with the impending destruction of Atlantis hanging over them. It's claimed to become a trilogy, so I look forward to seeing if it results in mer-babies!
A wonderful tale of first love, tradition and family loyalty set in Ancient Greece on the doomed island of Atlantis. MJ weaves a great story with so many details that you can imagine yourself right there, on the island, smelling the flowers and the salty air of the ocean. Immersion is the first book in a trilogy and I cannot wait to see (read) what will happen to the heroine, Artemis, next.
I am no teenager, and not a big fan of YA lit, but this book really drew me in. It has many qualities that I look for in my reading...historical fiction, a strong heroine and last but certainly not least, an entertaining story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book (it didn't hurt that I read it mostly while sitting on a beach, myself!) and I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend reading it on a beach! The author does an amazing job of describing the island and the sea. I felt like I was a step behind Artemis, the heroine, along the way running through olive tree groves and sailing on the open sea. I especially liked reading about a female protagonist who refuses to be a victim of circumstance at a time when women were treated as property. A great mix of adventure and romance with a smattering of Greek mythology/history. Definitely not just for the YA set; anyone who would like to escape to a faraway land and relive the excitement of first love will enjoy this book!
Immersion is ostensibly about teenage interspecial love, not a genre that would ordinarily appeal to me, but it was phenomenally well written and I enjoyed every word. The scene is Atlantis, which in this novel is an island in the Aegean Sea during classical Greek history. The protagonist is Artemis, a sixteen-year-old girl from one of the island's wealthier families, on the verge of an arranged marriage. What Prest captures beautifully is the timeless teenaged emotions, as relevant among today's teens as they were in Ancient Greece, set in a world that is both beautifully described and well researched. Books in this genre often fail at creating realistic suspense, but Prest masterfully captures the responses of Atlanteans upon learning of their island's impending destruction. I am invested in the characters, and am anxiously awaiting the future books in this series.
As someone who typically reads nonfiction, I found Immersion to be a wonderful change of pace, full of rich imagery, nuanced characters, and intriguing allusions to figures from Greek history and mythology.

The story follows Artemis's relationship with merman Egis while she strives to save what she can of her doomed home, Atlantis. As a scuba diver, I enjoyed the detailed and highly accurate descriptions of the underwater environment, as well as the way in which the plot reflects the realities of the effects of diving on the human body (I refrain from giving more details to avoid any spoilers!).

I particularly enjoyed the detailed descriptions in the action scenes towards the end of the book. The action was described so vividly that I could easily imagine seeing the scenes played out as part of a Hollywood movie (and best portrayed in 3D).

In addition, the main characters' relationships not just with each other but with their surrounding families were depicted with a mature and nuanced realism that reveals the amount of thought that went into developing the characters and their backstories.

Finally, the links and allusions to Greek history and mythology not only enhanced my experience, but they also taught me more than a few things on those subjects that I hadn't known before.

In all, Immersion was an excellent experience with vivid descriptions, set in a novel backdrop with interesting and nuanced characters. Given the book's ending, I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.
